Read text out loud on a Chromebook

Chromebooks have a screen reader that can read out text on the screen. This is useful if you are struggling to read the text or understand what it means. To turn it on, open the Settings app by pressing the 🔍 Search button at the left of your keyboard and typing Settings or finding it in the list that opens:

 

 

On the left of the window that opens, click Accessibility, then select Text-to-Speech:

 

 

You should see a page where you can enable or disable Select-to-speak. Once you enable it, a button will be added to the bottom right of the shelf that looks like this:

 

 

Click it, then click and drag over most text to hear it read out loud.

 

Note: You may need to press the touchpad until it clicks to click-and-drag, if you don't do so already.
