If you receive annoying, unwanted emails in your Gmail inbox, you can create a filter to automatically get rid of them. Here's how:

Note: Be careful with these filters; it's easy to accidentally block needed email. For instance, don't block all Canvas notification emails because some are annoying or you may miss messages from your teachers or students. Instead, see our tips on cleaning your inbox.

  1. From your Gmail inbox, click the Search Options icon at the upper right of the search bar.
  2. In the From field, type or paste the email address you wish to block, then click Create filter.
  3. Select Skip the Inbox (Archive it) as the action.

The message will still appear under All Mail in case you need it, but you won't be notified of it and it won't appear in your primary inbox. You can also use the other actions to sort your inbox, such as by automatically assigning labels to certain messages.
