Restart a Windows PC
print icon

To restart a Windows PC, click the Start button in the lower left, then click the Power icon just above it, then click Restart:

If you can't use the mouse or touchpad, you can use Tab and the Arrow Keys to navigate the start menu, then click the Power and Restart buttons with Enter.

Note: Simply pressing the power button or closing a device typically doesn't fully power it off. It is best to use this method for troubleshooting.

Force Reset

If you're confident your device isn't working, for instance if you've waited 10 minutes or longer and still can't interact with it in any way, including pressing Escape, Alt+Tab (switch apps), and Alt+F4 (close current app), you can force reset it by pressing and holding the power button for around 10 seconds. We encourage you to contact tech support using the methods below before doing this, however, as it can damage your computer.
