Restart a Chromebook
print icon

To fully restart a Chromebook, click the time in the lower right, then click the power button near the top. Alternatively, you can hold the power button until the screen fades to white then turns off.

Note: On most Chromebooks, the power button is a key on the upper right of the keyboard. On some, it is a button on the right side of the device, like a phone or tablet.

After a few moments, press the power button on the device or close and open it to turn it back on.

Note: Just closing a Chromebook typically doesn't power it off completely. On our school Chromebooks, it will only sign you out. Therefore, we recommend using this method for troubleshooting.

We don't recommend doing this often as it can damage your device. If you do have to do this regularly, please contact tech support using the methods below for help.
